Opening of the exhibition “Luxembourg, Cycling and more” at the Luxembourg Pavilion

Under the patronage of His Excellency Georges Engel, Minister of Sports of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is launching a special cycling exhibition

Taking place from March 24th to 27th, ‘Luxembourg, Cycling and More’ is hosted in collaboration with Luxembourg’s Ministry of Sports

The Luxembourg Pavilion is delighted to collaborate with Luxembourg’s Minister of Sport and launch an exhibition dedicated to the country’s long and special connection with cycling.

Taking place under the patronage of H.E. Georges Engel, Minister of Sports of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the ‘Luxembourg, Cycling and More’ display is free to experience for all Expo 2020 Dubai ticket holders from Thursday, March 24th to Sunday March 27th.  The exhibition is the first part of Luxembourg’s ‘Ride Your Bike for Youth, Diversity and Inclusion’ initiative, which proudly promotes the joy of cycling and its incredible power to connect individuals from across the globe.

Located in the Melusina event room of the Luxembourg Pavilion, the special collaboration will be marked with the opening ceremony on March 24th. The opening ceremony will also feature a special guest of honor Andy Schleck, the 2010 Tour de France winner and runner-up in the famous cycling race in 2009 and 2011.

The display includes the bike that Andy Schleck used in the Tour de France, plus the bicycles of the three other Luxembourgish Tour de France winners. This includes Nicolas Frantz, who had over 60 professional wins in his career, Charly Gaul, who is widely regarded as the greatest climber in cycling history, and Francois Faber, who was the first non-French national to win the Tour de France in 1909.

The ‘Ride Your Bike for Youth, Diversity and Inclusion’ campaign will also encompass three sporting events, with each designed to be totally accessible for guests of all ages.

Along with H.E. Georges Engel, Minister of Sports, and Andy Schleck, 2010 Tour de France winner, cycling fans are invited to RSVP to the group ride around Abu Dhabi’s iconic Yas Marina Circuit on Friday, March 25th, while the program also includes the Expo Run by Luxembourg in collaboration with Expo 2020 Dubai on Saturday, March 26th and Ride the World with Luxembourg on Sunday, March 27th.

H.E. Georges Engel, Minister of Sports of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, said: “Myself and the team at Luxembourg’s Ministry of Sports and the Luxembourg Pavilion are delighted to introduce our new cycling and sport initiative, aimed at promoting opportunity, mobility, and sustainability throughout the globe. Indeed, few other sports are as inclusive as cycling. Open to all ages and fitness levels, cycling is a diverse pastime that is enjoyed across the world by every nationality. Through this initiative, I want to share cycling’s countless physical and mental health benefits with Expo visitors and UAE residents, and invite them to discover the uplifting freedom and happiness that comes with riding a bike. I’m also thrilled to welcome Andy Schleck, one of our country’s sporting legends, as our special guest of honor. It’s an absolute privilege to be here in the UAE and to announce the start of this new campaign that perfectly embodies Luxembourg’s motto ‘Let’s make it happen’.”

Meanwhile, Andy Schleck, three-time winner of the Tour de France’s white jersey, said: “I’m so excited to bring the proud cycling legacy of my country to Expo 2020 Dubai with this wonderful exhibition. It’s an honor to represent the great cycling legends of Luxembourg, and showcase their classic bicycles on the world stage. Cycling is really a sport for everyone and it has an amazing ability to connect people, no matter where they are from or what language they speak. I can’t wait to join visitors and residents of the UAE at Expo 2020 Dubai and Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi for these memorable events. I want to thank H.E. Georges Engel for inviting me to be part of this incredible initiative.”

The ‘Luxembourg, Cycling and More’ collection is available to view for free at the Melusina Room of the Luxembourg Pavilion from March 24th to March 27th.
