On the first day of the tourism promotion mission to Dubai, HRH the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Minister of Tourism, Minister for the Middle Classes, Lex Delles, visited the Luxembourg Pavilion at the Expo 2020 World Exhibition. They were welcomed by the Commissioner General, Maggy Nagel, and the Director of the Pavilion, Daniel Sahr, and were given a guided tour, paying particular attention to the “beauty” section of the pavilion, dedicated to tourism.
Indeed, the pavilion highlights the rich and varied landscape of the Grand Duchy by presenting through a digital tool the dense forests and valleys of the Ardennes, the rock formations of the Mullerthal region, the “red earth” of the Minett with its former mining landscapes, the vineyards of the Moselle and the Guttland region with its numerous castles. The “beauty” zone of the Luxembourg Pavilion also surprises with an olfactory signature that refers to the “green heart of Europe” and creates the impression of being in the forests of the Grand Duchy. The highlight of the pavilion is certainly the giant three-storey slide, a reference to the “Schueberfouer”, the traditional Luxembourg funfair.
Lex Delles said in this context that “the Luxembourg Pavilion has succeeded in reflecting the variety of the Grand Duchy’s landscapes. Situated in the heart of Europe, Luxembourg captivates with its five diverse regions, which are distinguished by their unique and fascinating nature as well as their rich cultural and historical heritage. The “beauty” section of the Luxembourg Pavilion promotes these tourist assets in an innovative and charming way.
Maggy Nagel underlined that “the Luxembourg Pavilion offers a unique opportunity to present the diversity of Luxembourg’s landscapes and attractiveness to a very wide audience. In less than a month, we welcomed more than 115,000 visitors from all over the world and shared with them the beauty of Luxembourg as a tourist destination. Rated as one of the best pavilions by some of the most important media outlets in the UAE, we are convinced that the Luxembourg Pavilion will have a lasting positive impact on the Luxembourg tourism sector.
H.R.H. the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Minister of Tourism, Minister of Middle Classes, Lex Delles also welcomed H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to the Luxembourg Pavilion for a guided tour.
In the afternoon, H.R.H. the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Minister of Tourism, Minister for the Middle Classes, Lex Delles, had the opportunity to discover other national pavilions on the Expo 2020 Dubai site, including the Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Morocco pavilions.
H.R.H. the Hereditary Grand Duke also visited the pavilions of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait.
The Minister of Tourism and Minister for the Middle Classes, Lex Delles, also visited the Swiss pavilion and the Dubai Exhibition Centre, a modern event centre in the heart of Expo 2020. With an area of 45,000 square metres and 24 conference rooms, the Dubai Exhibition Centre meets the highest requirements of the business events segment. The visit to the Dubai Exhibition Centre was particularly rewarding in the context of the construction of a new congress and exhibition centre in Kirchberg.
In addition to the tourism component of the first day, H.R.H. the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Minister of Tourism, Minister for the Middle Classes, Lex Delles, closed the “Made in Luxembourg” week organised by the Chamber of Commerce. This event highlighted the quality of work of 12 Luxembourg companies. They presented a wide variety of services and products, such as the cleaning of solar panels, the creation of handmade jewellery, the production of vegetable products or the production of halal food.
Chamber of Commerce Director Carlo Thelen said: “For more than 60% of consumers in the European Union, the origin of a product is elementary, so it is crucial for the Chamber of Commerce to promote the ‘Made in Luxembourg’ label at a world-class event like Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Lex Delles underlined that “the “Made in Luxembourg” label is an internationally recognised indicator of quality that promotes Luxembourg know-how. The companies present at the “Made in Luxembourg” week have shown a great spirit of innovation, passion, creativity and exceptional expertise. I would like to congratulate the Chamber of Commerce for highlighting the know-how of Luxembourg companies.
